Epstein-Barr Virus Elispot

Overview

The Epstein-Barr Virus Elispot test measures T-cell reactivity to EBV lytic antigens, which relate to active viral phases, and latent antigens, which relate to dormant phases, providing a detailed view of current cellular immune response patterns. The analysis offers insight into how the immune system is responding to different stages of EBV exposure based on T-cell activity.

Clinically, this assessment may be relevant when exploring long-lasting fatigue, recurrent viral-pattern symptoms, gland discomfort, cognitive or neurological changes, autoimmune tendencies or chronic inflammatory presentations under practitioner review. The differentiation between lytic and latent responses can help contextualise whether cellular activity appears more consistent with active or dormant EBV phases.

Practitioners typically interpret these results alongside health history, antibody testing, symptom timelines, environmental and lifestyle factors and any prior viral exposures. Used within this broader context, the Epstein–Barr Virus Elispot test can support practitioner decision-making and help inform discussions about immune-related patterns for clients.
