Functional Tests

Human Herpes Virus (HHV) 8 - IgG Antibodies

Overview

The Human Herpes Virus (HHV) 8 IgG Antibodies test measures IgG antibodies to HHV-8 using a serum blood sample. IgG antibodies reflect previous immune exposure rather than recent or active infection.

HHV-8 is a member of the herpes virus family and, like other herpes viruses, may persist in a latent state following exposure. Measurement of IgG antibodies helps indicate whether immune recognition of the virus has occurred at some point in time.

Practitioners typically interpret results alongside clinical history, immune status, relevant symptoms and other laboratory findings. Results are reviewed as part of a wider clinical picture rather than in isolation.

Indications

  • Prior HHV-8 exposure: investigation of previous contact with human herpes virus 8.
  • Viral serology context: antibody testing alongside other herpes virus markers.
  • Immune response review: evaluation of IgG-mediated immune memory.
  • Complex viral history: supporting assessment in individuals with multiple viral exposures.
  • Lymphatic or vascular findings: serology review where HHV-8 exposure is relevant.
  • Immunological workup: adjunct testing within a broader immune investigation.
  • Clinical clarification: additional information where viral exposure history is unclear.
